How can we help?

Cordial MCP Server

Overview

In this article, you'll learn how to connect the Cordial MCP server to your AI assistant and start asking questions about your account in plain English.

The Cordial MCP server gives your AI assistant secure, read-only access to your Cordial account, specifically, audiences, campaigns, content, orchestrations, and performance data. There's nothing to install and no API key to manage. You connect once using your existing Cordial login, and your assistant can start answering questions grounded in your actual account data.

This version is read-only. Every available tool can read and analyze your account — none can send, edit, or delete anything. Future versions will support optional write capabilities. By default, however, the MCP is read-only, and write access must be explicitly enabled.

What You Can Do

Once connected, ask your assistant things like:

  • “How did our email engagement this month compare to last month?”
  • “Summarize how our last batch send performed and what we should do next time.”
  • “Find audiences related to lapsed high-value customers.”
  • “How many contacts would match this segment if I added a purchase in the last 90 days?”
  • “Walk me through how our welcome journey is structured.”
  • “What reusable content blocks do we have for the holiday template?”
  • “Give me an overview of how this account is set up — channels, attributes, events.”

Before you begin

You'll need the following before connecting:

  • A Cordial account login (the same credentials you use for the Cordial app)
  • An MCP-capable AI assistant, such as Claude (web or desktop)
  • The only configuration required is the MCP server URL: https://mcp.cordial.io/mcp

Connect Your AI Assistant

The pattern is the same everywhere: add the URL → click connect → log in with Cordial → approve access.

  • Go to Settings → Connectors.
  • Click Add custom connector.
  • Name it Cordial and paste the URL: https://mcp.cordial.io/mcp
  • Click Connect. A Cordial login window opens.
  • Sign in and approve.

Every AI Assistant has a different setup. Review your specific assistant for proper setup:

Your First 5 Minutes

  1. Confirm your account - Ask: "What account am I in?" — the assistant will tell you which Cordial account and user you're connected to.
  2. Get oriented - Ask: "Give me an overview of this Cordial account."
  3. Explore audiences - Ask: "List our audiences" then "How healthy is the '[name]' tracked audience — size and trend?"
  4. Check performance - Ask: "How did our email messages perform over the last 30 days?"
  5. Podium Report - Ask: "Build an orchestration report for [orchestration name] based on the last 30 days”

Example Prompts by Use Case

Audience & Segmentation

  • “Find audiences about cart abandoners and tell me how big each one is.”
  • “Estimate how many contacts would match: opened email in last 30 days AND no purchase in 90 days.”
  • “Is our VIP audience growing or shrinking over the last quarter?”

Campaign Performance

  • “Compare the engagement of our last three batch sends.”
  • “Which channel performed best this month vs. last month?”
  • “Export the stats for message [name/ID] as a CSV.”

Orchestrations & Automation

  • “Show me how our onboarding orchestration flows, step by step.”
  • “Which orchestrations touch first-time buyers?”

Content & Creative

  • “What Sculpt templates do we have, and what blocks make up the welcome email?”
  • “Search our image library for product hero shots tagged ‘summer’.”

Account Understanding

  • “What contact attributes and events do we track in this account?”
  • “What’s in our product catalog configuration?”

Security and Compliance

The Cordial MCP Interface follows the same enterprise-grade standards as Cordial’s platform: encrypted end-to-end connections, authentication required for all operations, user roles and permissions respecting existing Cordial settings and full audit trails for every action.

Troubleshooting

  • The assistant says it can’t find any Cordial tools.
    • Make sure the connector is enabled in your current chat/session, and that the URL is exact. Some clients require you to toggle the connector on per conversation.
  • I wasn’t asked to log in / it’s not authorized.
    • Remove and re-add the connector to trigger the login flow again. Complete the Cordial sign-in window fully — don’t close it early.
  • A specific question doesn't return anything.
    • The server works at the audience/campaign/account level. Per-contact lookups aren’t currently available. Rephrase to a segment-level question, or contact your Cordial Solutions team for support.
  • Results seem incomplete.
    • Large lists are paginated — ask the assistant to “get the next page” or to “keep going until you’ve listed them all.”
